The coalition's incoming president, the Rev. Joel Hunter, pastor of a megachurch in Longwood, Fla., proposed that the group broaden its agenda beyond opposition to gay marriage and abortion. He proposed a campaign to, among other things, reduce poverty and prevent disease.
Faced with this agenda in line with the clearest teachings of Christ, the board of the Christian Coalition told Hunter it would be better if he got lost.

There are many things one could say in response, but this speaks best.
What? And spoil the market for the Joel Osteen set? Are you mad?

That's nearly as embarrassing as the unofficial Catholic coalition of evangelists who book cruises in which folks (in evening dress) can buy "face time" with popular apologists and some clergy (which is nearly as embarrassing as folks buying rafting time with conservatives). It's possible the fine-diners all discuss Matthew 25, but it would certainly be done in the absence of those very people who are mentioned in Mt 25!
With 50 million dead in- or post-womb, abortion is a huge issue for sure, it (apart from shutting down the war machine) is THE pressing issue, followed closely by the attack on the traditional nuclear family, but there are too many of our relatives and friends across the nation receiving food or housing assistance and lacking wages, job security and even affordable health care, for any of us to continue to set aside the directives of Mt 25 as necessary sufferings, as something which will take care of itself apolitically.
