WASHINGTON, D.C.(Catholic Online) – Catholics from across the country will gather in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception here for the National Prayer Vigil for Life Opening Mass Jan. 21, the eve of the 34th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.
The 8 p.m.Vigil Mass for Life is the largest annual Catholic Mass in the United States. As in the past, approximately 10,000 participants are expected to attend the vigil and then join thousands more the next day to participate in the national March for Life.

May our prayers be with them, and may there be a growing awareness of the many varied issues that concern human life and may there be a greater awareness of the need for a consistent ethic of life. As the human race advances the need becomes ever greater that we come to see all human life as sacred. Thus, may we stand together and offer a unified voice against the horrors of abortion, euthanasia, capital punishment, and war.
We must learn to see our creator revealed in the face of every human being, for it is in the image of God that we were made. The call is to stand for life in such a way that no one need ever again fear violence, hunger, war, discrimination, hatred, or any other of the many injustices of our day that are opposed to life. The call is for humanity to grow in our ability to accept that the lives of human beings are not merely means to an end, but that God loved each of us enough to give the ultimate sacrifice for human life.
Amen
34 years, and 50 m i l l i o n dead. And to think that's just in the wombs.. there are so many other statistics from our glaring lack of respect for life and for all of His creation, not just here or from here, but globally.
But even one little life saved, is a life saved. Even one sufferer eased, is a sufferer eased. And these are the least of His people.
The best laid plans of mice and men...but one of these years, I'll make the Life March, and the Mass of the only Sacrifice that saves. But this Sunday will find us standing in for Godparents of a small sunshine whom I claimed for Christ one night quite a while ago..and then, to work, with some of His dying (chronological) lepers.
